How does this tool work?

The Gileon-Calc Rain Gauge puts buoyancy to work using Archimedes’ displacement principle. The two-part gauge has a polycarbonate measurement tube and a UV-stabilized plastic flute. As the rain falls, the meter rises, measuring the amount of rain in a given time per area. It comes with evident inch marks that allow quick reading, even from a distance (up to 5″ capacity). This attractive rain gauge is suitable for any deck or patio and comes with a powder-coated steel tabletop holder for easy installation.
